Quotation 2

Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world.

- Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: This quote from former president Abraham Lincoln is the lighter end of the spectrum for Power. It implies the abilities that humans have to rise over tyranny, and more importantly, themselves for the greater good of themselves and/or others. That people aren't run by history, because we are the people who mould history. This is a great representation of the "good" side of Power...

...When Abraham Lincoln said this, he was in a position that he knew what having power over a country felt like, and he also knew the realism behind the power of the American people as well. One of the reasons he managed to gain the power is because he knew that every person has the ability to rise over contriversy. This is a great connection to the subject of power because a lot of stories associate power with evil, and the shift in this power resulting in the fall of evil and the rise of good. But in this situation in particular it is a quotation from a man who has, and is tasting power, and he realizes how fragile it can be. This is a situation where the power isn't being abused, and that is the side of power that is more rare in readings, and that what makes this quote incredibly significant...
