Flash Fiction

Flash Fiction: (300 words)

We have seen better days...

This is where the tides of history turn. For almost 20 years, our people have been ruled with an iron fist. Our women are forced into slavery, and our boys into soldiers. They force us to kill our own families, and then fight their wars. It seems whenever the seams of society rip, Al Bashir and his army are there to capitalize on it. He's been close to being stopped before too, but then he preaches for peace and love, gains his power back and attacks. It's been a never ending vicious cycle for longer than we can handle.

But like I said, this where history is made.

People seem to have forgotten that we mould and create history. That power is given to these tyrannical monsters. Without us, Al Bashir would be nothing. Without him, we would be better off. Every night, it's the same chaos. Again, and again. Had to happen. Needed to happen. This is what he wants. But tonight, things change. Tonight, we rise, we strike, and we take back not only our freedom, but our humanity.

10 minutes.

It seems like all his life, Al Bashir has been hiding in the shadows. Watching from the sidelines, causing strategically placed Mayhem around our country. Smart, really. But we've been watching him. Every move he makes, every fire, or bombing, or raid that he organises, we study. We study his allies, we study his sources, we study him. To change the course of history, we needed to know everything, from who his parents were to what he ate for breakfast.

9 minutes.

It's easier said than done, but when his army hates him as much as the rebels do, it makes things a little bit easier.

So now we wait. Tonight's the night, and we wait in its shadows. 8 minutes.
This is for everything he's done. 7 minutes
This is for the thousands in danger, and even more dead. 6 minutes.
And though I fight for my people and my country, this is more than that. 5 minutes.
This is for me. This is for my family, my brothers and sisters. For him shattering my life into infinite irreparable pieces. 4 minutes.
3 minutes. Tension builds.
2 minutes. Prepare to evacuate body.
1 minute. This is what some would call, an outer body experience.
0. Release.

Flash Fiction: (150 words)

This is where we change history.

For almost 20 years, we have been harshly ruled by Al Bashir. Our daughters made slaves, our boys turned into soldiers, forced to kill their own families and to battle his wars. Him and his army capatalizes on any sign of weakness that's presented before him. And when he's on the verge of defeat, he peraches peace and love, regains strength and attacks once more.

After hardship for so many years, people have forgotten that we mould history. That we gave power to him. Without us, he'd be nothing. Without him, we'd be better off. We'd be without the chaos that we suffer every night. He has us scared, that's what he wants. But tonight that changes.

Tonights the night, and now we wait. And though I fight for my country, and people, this is for me as well. For my brothers and sisters, for my family and friends. Because I was one of them once, and I pray they find a way to forgive me. This would be a step in the right direction.

Flash Fiction: (75 words)

We have suffered nearly 20 years of harsh inhumanity. Forced to do things that people can't even begin to imagine. He retains power preaching peace and love to the ignorant, but tonight history changes.

Our people forget that we mould history. And without us, he'd be nothing. He has scared us into ignorance, but that won't be the case for long.

Tonight's the night. And I fight for more than just my people, I fight for me. Brother, Father, Mother. God rest their souls.

Personal Reflection:

The piece written above has a strong signifigance to the theme of power. The story gives an evident feeling of the power of control being both lost and had. Had in the case of the dictator, and antagonist, and lost in the case of the character speaking. The power of control is a very fragile tool in any story, or situation in real life, but it is a very valued and useful one. Control is used to manipulate surrounding characters, and effecting the end result of any situation. In this particular situation, the character created is submerged into a place where he has little power, and none diplomatically. And although you get a sense of hopelessness in such a situation, it gives a hint of a moral, that nobody has no power in any situation, and that the tides of a confrontation or situation can turn quickly and signifigantly. Thus, the signifigance of this piece of fiction is to that of the underdog's story, which can be applied to most situations of all kinds.
